Post-Conviction Sex Offender Testing
Post-Conviction Sex Offender Testing is a specialist field with its own training requirements and its own reporting conventions. It exists as one component of a supervision and treatment program, never as a standalone service to a private individual.
We accept PCSOT instructions from supervising officers, treatment providers and courts. We do not accept them from the person under supervision, or from their family. The examination is part of a containment model that only functions when the examiner, the treatment provider and the supervising officer are all working from the same information, which cannot happen if the examinee is the client.
The usual formats
Sexual history examinations address disclosure of past behaviour, typically early in a treatment program. Maintenance examinations address compliance with the conditions of supervision over a defined period. Specific-issue examinations address a single alleged violation.
Reports go to the referring agency in the format that agency requires, and results are discussed with the treatment provider where the program calls for it. Scheduling in these cases is generally recurring and set well in advance.
Limits
A polygraph in this setting is a clinical and supervisory tool. It is not a determination of guilt, it does not replace the judgement of the supervising officer or the treatment provider, and no responsible program treats a single result as decisive. Any examiner who presents PCSOT results as a verdict has misunderstood their role in the process.
